DIY Project: Make Funko Pops Glow
Video by: Snugscorpion
Materials
- Art 'N Glow Glow Paints
-
Art 'N Glow Short Handle Brush Set
- Masking tape
- Exacto knife
- Sandpaper or nail filer (180-220 grit)
- Primer or clear coat spray
- Paint markers (optional)
Step-By-Step Instructions
Step 1: Cover any areas that you don't want to paint with masking tape. Use your Exacto knife to cut the tape as needed. We'd recommend doing just the head first, and we'll get to the body later.
Step 2: Add 5-8 layers of glow paint using your paintbrushes, allowing the glow paint to dry completely between coats (~15 minutes).
Step 3: Remove the masking tape. If you have any difficulties, you can use the Exacto knife. Remember to take your time on this step - patience is key!
Step 4: Lightly sand any areas where bubbles may have formed in the paint, or anywhere that the paint may have accidentally gotten on.
Step 5: Use masking tape again to cover the areas that you don't want to paint on the body.
Step 6: Apply paint. For the body, you'll want to use at least 5-6 layers of glow paint. Apply using your paintbrushes, allowing about ~15 minutes to dry between coats.
Step 7: Remove the masking tape once more.
Step8: Apply additional paint if needed. Use a fine paintbrush to paint to any small areas or details that you may have missed. You can add some other colors if you'd like as well! Use at least 3-4 layers of glow paint on the smaller details. If you make any mistakes, you can sand away or use your Exacto knife to remove any excess paint or remove bubbles if necessary.
**Optional: If you happen to sand too much, you can use paint markers to touch up your figure.
Step 9: Apply clear coat. Once your Funko Pop is completed and all of the paint has finished drying, you will apply your clear coat spray! Apply the first coat and wait at least 1 day for it to dry, then apply a second coat.
Step 10: Your glow in the dark Funko Pop is complete! Find a neat place to display your custom figurine - a shelf with a blacklight is always a great option.
Tip: If you just want to add some small glowing accents, you can skip the masking tape and just apply your glow paint with a steady hand. You don't need to paint the entire Funko Pop to get an awesome glowing effect!
