Frequently asked questions
Can I add glow powder or mica pigments to this resin?+
Yes — and it works beautifully. This resin was formulated specifically to suspend Art 'N Glow glow powders, pearl pigments, and mica powders evenly without clumping or settling. Add your pigments after mixing Part A and Part B together, stir thoroughly, and pour. Denser pigments like glow powder may benefit from a slightly longer stir to fully disperse.
What is the maximum pour depth for casting?+
The maximum recommended single-layer cast is 6 fluid ounces (by volume, not depth). Exceeding this traps heat during curing, which can cause yellowing or cracking. For larger casts, pour in layers — allow each layer to cure for 6 hours before adding the next.
Is this resin safe to use indoors?+
Yes. Our formula contains no VOCs and no solvents, and produces very little odor compared to most epoxy resins. Work in a well-ventilated space and wear gloves as you would with any two-part epoxy. Once fully cured, the resin is completely inert and food-safe.
How long until I can demold or handle my project?+
Casting projects are typically ready to demold after 24 hours. Full hardness (80+ Shore D) is reached at 72 hours. Avoid heavy use, heat, or chemical exposure during the first 72 hours while the cure completes.
I'm getting bubbles — what should I do?+
Our resin is self-degassing, so most bubbles will rise and pop on their own within 20-30 minutes. For faster results, pass a heat gun or propane torch 6-8 inches above the surface in a quick sweeping motion — don't hold it in one spot. Mixing too vigorously can also introduce air; stir slowly and deliberately.
Can I use this resin outdoors?+
Our formula is UV-resistant and resists yellowing from normal indoor ambient light. It is not designed for permanent, unprotected outdoor exposure — prolonged direct sunlight will eventually yellow any epoxy resin. For outdoor furniture, add a UV-rated exterior topcoat once fully cured.
Can I pour multiple layers for extra thickness?+
Yes. For coating applications, allow each layer to cure for at least 6 hours before adding the next. The maximum recommended thickness per coating layer is 1/4". For casting, limit each layer to 6 fl oz, then wait 6 hours before the next pour.
How should I store unopened resin?+
Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight with lids tightly sealed. Unopened shelf life is approximately 12 months. Once opened, use within 6 months for best results. Do not store near heat sources or in freezing conditions.
Is it truly food-safe?+
Yes — once fully cured at 72 hours, this resin is food-safe in compliance with FDA regulations (21 CFR 175.300). It is safe for incidental food and beverage contact on items like cutting boards, serving trays, coasters, and tumblers. The uncured resin is not food-safe — always allow a complete 72-hour cure before any food contact.
