Can you guess the most unfun part of being an artist?  CLEANING UP!

Well, today we are going to make clean up and creating easy for you.  We want you to have fun when creating with Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin and not worrying about clean up!

What are we going over?

In this Art ‘N Glow blog post, we will be going over how to keep a clean workspace and the steps you may want to take to prevent a big mess.

There is simply too much to think about when creating than to think about clean up!  Many artists spend their entire day planning how they are going to create their next piece.  “What kind of pigments will I add" or “How will I layer these colors to achieve my goal.”

So we are going to give you some steps on how to plan your creative process.

What is Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin?

Epoxy resin is an adhesive plastic made from synthetic thermosetting polymers. Meaning that our epoxy resin is a sticky plastic that gets hot as it hardens.  Here is a brief explanation of how resin works, we will go deeper into the essentials later in this blog post.

Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin comes in a bundle of two different bottles; we call it the Epoxy Resin Kit.  One of the bottles is labeled Resin; the other bottle is labeled Hardener.

When mixed, epoxy resin and hardener solidify to become hard as a rock!  As the resin mixture begins to solidify you will notice that the resin is heating up, don’t be worried this is natural.

As a quick tip, be sure to mix gently to reduce the number of bubbles within your Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin.

What is Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin used for?

Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin can be used for a variety of incredible projects.  Our resin is used to make fluid art, charms, toys, jewelry, carpentry art; we have even seen luthiers making guitar finishes with epoxy resin.  The best part of our epoxy resin is that it is easy to cast into a silicone mold, all you need is some Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin and Pigment Powder!

Is Casting Resin for Me?

If you are asking yourself questions like, “do I have what it takes to cast resin?” or “am I artistic enough create resin art?”, then the answer is YES!

Casting resin is a fun project even the kids can do.  All you need is a simple silicone mold; you can buy them on Amazon or even at Michaels.  Most molds are found in the bakery section, and let me tell you that there are some really cool molds out there.

Are there Any Health Risks When Creating with Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin?

Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin is a non-toxic non-hazardous material and is safe to use at home.  When using Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin, make sure to be in a well ventilated, use gloves, and eye protection.

Our epoxy resin puts off a slight odor and is very sticky.  Epoxy resin can cause itchy skin if not washed off promptly.

If resin gets on your hands, simply wash with soap and warm water before the resin starts to harden.  If resin gets in your eyes, make sure to flush with warm water, do not rub, and immediately seek proper medical attention.

Is Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin safe to throw away in the trash?

If Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin is in a liquefied state it should not be thrown in the trash.  If there is liquid resin and hardener or paint take it to the local waste collection.

If your plastic resin container is empty, make sure to seal the lid and throw it in the recycling bin or trash.

Two ways to begin?

There are some simple steps to prepare your workspace.  The best way to start thinking about how to prepare for creating with Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin is to decide on two factors.

  1. Use Disposable Materials - make sure to recycle!
  2. Use Washable Materials - Be very selective on what materials are used with each cup or stirring tool.

Since Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin will solidify to glass, we advise not to use glass as a mixing cup.

Creating with disposable materials:

Using disposable materials is the easiest way to stay clean when creating with Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin.  Plan out how many mixing cups, stirring tools, gloves, and towels you will need and double them.  It is best to have backups when creating with resin because things can get messy quick.

When using disposable materials to create with Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin make sure you are conscious of the effect plastic has on our planet.  Be sure to have a special trash bag for your materials, so that you can recycle once you are done creating.

**If you do plan on recycling allow any liquified resin mixture in the bottom of your mixing cups to cure first.  If you have liquefied resin or hardener make sure to use a separate bag and dispose of it at the waste management facility.

Be sure to have these essentials ready when creating with Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin.

  1. Art ‘N Glow Epoxy Resin Kit comes in 32 oz and 1-gallon kits.
  2. Art ‘N Glow Neutral or Fluorescent Glow Pigment Powders.  Select a few different glow pigments so that your resin has a beautiful glow at night.
  3. Art ‘N Glow Paint Brush to make sure resin gets into all the crevices of the silicone mold. (optional but recommended)
  4. **Gloves to keep any resin off your skin.  Make sure to have two pairs, just in case you need a backup pair.
  5. **Eye protection to protect your eyes in the case of any resin randomly happens to splash up.
  6. **Paper or plastic cups that are see through so that you can measure and mix properly, make sure to measure volume not weight.
  7. **Plenty of popsicle sticks to stir your resin and hardener mixture.
  8. **Some kind of shallow box, even a cardboard box works.  So that when you pour resin, it has a place to go rather than your table.
  9. Heat gun or a small cooking torch to remove any bubbles and unwanted debris from the resin.  If you do not want to use a torch, you may try blowing through a straw, just make sure not to inhale!

Creating with non-disposable materials:

When using non-disposable materials, planning is even more necessary.  Since you will be creating in mixing cups that are non-disposable, then that means you plan to do some dished after creating.  Be sure to have measuring cups that are the same so that when mixing the resin and hardener, it is easy to eyeball a 1:1 ratio.  Of course, we recommend to measure exact amounts.

If you plan on using non-disposable tools, make sure to have plenty of rubbing alcohol, soap, and hot water around.  Using alcohol and soap to clean helps separate and break down your resin mixture so for easier disposal.
